Published by LEV the Proceedings of the Second International Inter-University Congress "Women in the Church: artisans of humanity".
The Libreria Editrice Vaticana (LEV) has published the volume "Ten holy women: makers of humanity".which brings together the papers of the II International Inter-University Congressheld in Rome on 7 and 8 March 2024 at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. The two days of reflection are part of the project "Women in the Church: Artificers of Humanity", which has been promoted by various academic entities: the Catholic University of Avila (UCAV), the Pontifical Urbaniana University, the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, the Pontifical Athenaeum of Avila, the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, the Pontifical University of Avila, the Pontifical University of Avila, the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. Regina Apostolorum and the Pontifical Theological Faculty Teresianum of Rome, under the patronage of no less than five Dicasteries of the Roman Curia, among them the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life and six Embassies to the Holy See.
The project was launched in 2022 with an initial International Congress on the "Women Doctors of the Church and Patrons of Europe". and aims to offer a contribution to the theological-pastoral reflection on women in the Church by following the testimonies of women saints. In particular, it is part of the current synodal journey to highlight the role of women as disciples of Christ. in Mary's way. Pope Francis, at the beginning of his pontificate, had underlined that "the role of women in the Church is precisely the icon of the Virgin, of Mary, the one who helps the Church to grow! Press conference during the return flight from the Apostolic Journey to Rio de Janeiro on the occasion of the 28th World Youth Day.(28 July 2013). And precisely in the manner of Mary who carried out her mission together with Joseph, her husband, the project on women as "artisans of the human" aims to promote the charism and role of women in the Church and in the world from a perspective of co-responsibility and complementarity between the feminine and the masculine.
The volume "Ten women saints: makers of humanity". presents the sainthood of ten women who, as Pope Francis recalled during the the Audience to the Congress participantsIn different times and cultures, with different styles, and with initiatives of charity, education and prayer, they have given proof of how the "feminine genius" can reflect, in a unique way, the holiness of God in the world.
The publication can be a useful instrument in university pastoral care, but also in diocesan and parish pastoral care to promote that "pastoral care of holiness" which offers young people examples of holiness, "above all feminine; which encourages them to raise their gaze, to expand the horizon of their dreams and their way of thinking, and to be ready to follow high ideals. In this way formation will be even more capable of touching each person in his or her integrity and uniqueness" (cf. Francis, Speech to the participants of the International Inter-University CongressClementine Chamber, 7 March 2024).
